Win #1 at Stafford

6/28/2008 - Waterford Speedbowl, Keith and the M&M Motorsports team finish 3rd.  A tight race car made it difficult to go for the win.  Another top 5 ends another good weekend.  Next week double features at Thompson, a regular show at Stafford and a 100 lap race at the Speedbowl.

6/27/2008 - Stafford Motor Speedway, Keith and the Poulin Racing #78 finish 2nd after coming back from a mid race flat tire.  Again patience and a fast car help keith record another top 5.

6/26/2008 - Thompson Speedway, Rained out, Double features next week, see Thompson website for details.

6/21/2008 - Waterford Speedbowl, Keith finishes 5th after a controversial call sent him to the rear.  Keith was able to battle back and finish 5th.

6/20/2008 - Stafford Motor Speedway, Keith gets first WIN at Stafford, and his 4th overall of the season.  Patience was the key to victory, Keith holds off Ted Christopher for the win.

6/19/2008 - Thompson Speedway, Keith finishes 2nd.  Story below:

Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry, CT, scored a hard-fought victory in a talented field of competitors in the Sunoco Modified main event on Thursday night. Ceravolo became the fourth different winner in four weeks of Whelen All-American Series racing at the Speedway in 2008.

“It’s nice to win with a Dodge motor on Dodge night,” said Ceravolo in victory lane.

Ceravolo took command of the 30-lap main event from the drop of the green flag. In the early going, Ceravolo was chased by Bobby Grigas and Danny Cates.  Bert Marvin and Jimmy Blewett were getting racy for the fourth spot.  Tommy Cravenho, Keith Rocco, and Kerry Malone battled deeper inside the top ten.

Contact with Cates found Grigas falling into the clutches of Blewett and Marvin.  Grigas maintained third while Marvin was able to take the fourth spot from Blewett.  Rocco continued to battle with Cravenho as Malone looked on.

Ceravolo had checked out on the field with Cates running in third.  Marvin was all over the back bumper of Grigas in pursuit.

At halfway, Ceravolo continued to lead Cates. Things really heated up between Grigas and Marvin. They swapped positions back and forth before the first caution of the event flew on lap 17 for a spin for Carl Oberg. The yellow erased the sizeable lead for Ceravolo. Blewett ducked down pit road for service under the caution.

After a failed attempt at a restart, Ceravolo was able to regain his lead. Both Cates and Grigas lost ground as Marvin moved into second followed by Rocco, and Malone. A scary looking wreck slowed the event again on lap 20 that involved Eric Goodale and Anthony Burr.

Ceravolo got the edge on the restart with Rocco charging. There was a tense moment when Rocco made contact with Marvin as they battled for position. Sparks flew when Marvin lost a right front tire. The field scattered when the caution flew. No one was collected during the incident.

On the restart, Rocco lined up to the outside of Ceravolo. With a push by Malone Ceravolo edged ahead once again.  Rocco dove low trying in vain to get the lead from Ceravolo. Malone ran strong in third. Pitkat, who started deep in the field, had moved into the fourth position.

Over the final five laps, Ceravolo had his hands full with Rocco. Pitkat had reeled in Malone making a race for third as well. In the end, Ceravolo held on for the victory over Rocco, who slid through turn four coming to the checkered flag making a valiant effort. Malone turned back the advances of Pitkat. Cates rounded out the top five.

6/14/2008  - Waterford Speedbowl, Keith wins the heat race, but Mother Nature wins the night, as rains came and canceled the rest of the evening.

6/13/2008 - Stafford Motor Speedway, UPDATED Keith finishes 3rd in the 100 lap race.  Started 17th and caught some bad breaks on the two restarts they had, but still managed a top 5.  Post race inspection was interesting as one competitor clearly did not pass chassis height and the second was borderline.  Nothing was done by the officials so the finish stands.  Congratulations to Ted Christopher on his 100th career win at Stafford and for having Section A dedicated in his name.

6/12/2008 - Thompson Speedway, Keith WINS first in 2008 at Thompson, 3rd Win of 2008 and the 14th Win of his Modified career.  Special Thanks to everyone on the Bannister Motorsports crew.
Thompson story below:
Keith Rocco of Wallingford, CT, continues his hot streak in open-wheel competition in Connecticut short track racing with his first Sunoco Modified win at Thompson. It is Rocco’s third overall win on the 2008 season. Rocco had to work hard for the victory through a number of restarts and some stiff competition for the top spot.

Bobby Grigas III led the opening lap before the caution flew for a single car incident. On the restart, Ceravolo rocketed into the top spot. Rocco had worked his way into the second position before the caution flew again for a spin by Bert Marvin.

The restart pitted Rocco against Ceravolo. After a single lap of green, Rocco was the new leader. Pitkat had moved into the third position by lap 10 while Cates ran in fourth. Grigas was having his hands full with Jimmy Blewett as Kerry Malone watched.

At the halfway marker, Rocco began to stretch his lead over Ceravolo while Pitkat was making headway toward the lead pack. The caution flew for a spin by Anthony Burr to slow the action.

The outside groove was the sweet spot on the restart with Ceravolo retaking the lead. Rocco looked poised to make a bid at the lead when the caution flew once again for an incident that involved Rookie Josh Sylvester, Harry Rheaume, Josh Steeves, and Geoff Gernhard.

On the resulting restart, Ceravolo got a good jump but Rocco would take command of the event. Almost immediately, the caution flew when Pitkat went hard into the turn four wall.

Cates bolted into the lead after contact between the leaders Ceravolo and Rocco. Bobby Grigas followed through and into the second position. Cravenho moved into the third spot but quickly lost the position to a rebounding Rocco.

Ceravolo, who had a flat tire, spun on the backstretch to bring out the caution. Cates took the lead on the restart but less than a lap later Rocco reclaimed the top spot. Contact between third running Grigas and Kerry Malone, sent Grigas spinning.

Rocco took command on the restart leaving Cates to defend his position over Cravenho and Malone. A pair of cautions could not deter the fast-running Rocco, who continued to lead. Cates was hanging tough in second while Malone clearly had a fast car.

Slicing and dicing on a restart found Jimmy Blewett running through the dust of the infield to move into the third spot. Blewett had his hands full with an ill-handling racecar and fell back as quickly as he had moved forward.

With a pair of laps remaining, Rocco had checked out. The Wallingford, CT driver raced unchallenged to the checkers. Cates had a strong performance to finish second. Malone, Grigas, and Blewett rounded out the top 5.

6/7/2008- Waterford Speedbowl, A strong qualifing race started Keith 9th for the feature.  Some early race, mid pack blocking cost Keith and points leader Dennis Gada alot of valuable time.  Even with the blocking, Keith was able to salvage a 5th place finish.  Stay tuned for next week, twin 35 lap features at the Bowl.

6/6/2008- Stafford Motor Speedway, Fogged out after qualifing.

6/5/2008
- Thompson Speedway, Rained Out.

5/31/2008 - Waterford Speedbowl, A seventh spot starting spot in the heat and a heat win, the M&M Motorsports Team were looking forward to another strong run, but Mother nature would be the ultimate winner.  Half way through the racing programs the rains came and the Speedbowl pulled the plug.  Stay tuned to see when the 35 lap feature will be rescheduled.
5/30/2008 - Stafford Motor Speedway, A 20th place starting spot, an early wreck, Keith and the Poulin Racing Team battle back with a bent race car to finish 5th.  Some nights are battle, and some nights are smooth, this was definitely a battle and the car had the battle scars to prove it.
